International Conference at YSU: "Human Rights in Crisis – War, Conflict, and Displacement"
On April 17–18, 2025, an international conference titled "Human Rights in Crisis – War, Conflict, and Displacement" will be held through the joint efforts of YSU Center for European Studies, the Global Campus of Human Rights, Maastricht University, and Right Livelihood. The conference will focus on the protection of human rights in the context of wars, armed conflicts, and forced displacement.

April 17, 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.– Panoramic Hall, Ani Grand Hotel, Yerevan
April 18, 10:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.– YSU Academic Council Session Hall
The two-day discussions will be organized around the following key thematic areas:
Comparative analysis of the human rights situation in unrecognized states
Legal status, socio-economic rights, and governmental responses concerning displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh
Children’s experiences and participation as witnesses to the consequences of displacement
Stability of political systems in the context of hybrid warfare
Cooperation and support between civil society and state institutions
The conference will conclude with a summary of findings, initiation of innovative policy recommendations, and an assessment of their potential impact on policymaking.
This initiative will also be held within the framework of Maastricht University's "Child-War" project.
Among the keynote speakers is Raji Sourani, founder of the Palestinian Center for Human Rights and 2013 Laureate of the Right Livelihood Award.
A video address will be delivered by Oleksandra Matviichuk, the 2022 Right Livelihood Laureate from Ukraine.
Experts from Maastricht University, Yerevan State University, UNHCR, the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as various governmental agencies and NGOs will also contribute to the discussions.
