The Pedagogy and Education Development Center of Yerevan State University was founded on July 19, 2017. The center operates the chair of pedagogy, which is one of the oldest chairs of YSU. It was founded on October 10, 1921, with the initiative and efforts of the talented scientist-pedagogues of the time. Recognized scientist-pedagogues, among them Professor Gurgen Edilyan, the founding head of the chair, made a significant contribution to the establishment of the chair of pedagogy and the organization and development of scientific and pedagogical activities.
The center operates a three-level education system: Undergraduate, Master's, and Postgraduate.
In addition to the educational programs it offers, the center functions the new teacher qualification awarding system in several YSU faculties, which was implemented in the university in the 2016-2017 academic year. As a result of which, the students, in addition to the professional qualification, also receive the pedagogue’s one, by the new "240+30" credit system for awarding the teacher's qualification approved by the RA ESCS Ministry.
The teaching staff of the Center for Pedagogy and Education Development continues to maintain and develop the values created by its outstanding predecessors. Leading specialists in the field, doctors, professors, candidates of science, and associate professors teach at the center and are the authors of numerous monographs, school textbooks, teacher's methodical and university manuals, as well as scientific articles.
The Center for Pedagogy and Education Development has a professional council awarding academic degrees of the Supreme Certifying Committee (the council has been operating since 2012).
Since 2019, the center has been publishing the international scientific-methodical journal "Education in the 21st Century", which is included in the list of journals acceptable to the RA Supreme Certifying Committee. In 2022, it was registered in the "OJS" international system.
The Center for Pedagogy and Education Development cooperates with scientific and educational centers in England, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Since 2014, the center has been a member of the European Educational Research Association (EERA).
As part of the exchange programs, students of the center have the opportunity to study at prestigious universities abroad. They, as well as the students participating in the courses of the pedagogical additional educational block, undergo pedagogical practice, which allows them to apply theoretical knowledge in the teaching process.
Graduates of the center have the opportunity to work not only as teachers but also as social pedagogues, pedagogue-psychologists, education organizers, methodologists, and other required positions in public educational institutions.
The YSU Pedagogy and Education Development Center has a high rating, keeps pace with the times, and makes a great contribution to the training of qualified personnel and the development of pedagogical science in Armenia.
