Chair of Information Systems
The Chair of Information Systems was founded in 2007. Due to its effective activities, the Chair has a stable place in the field of IT research and training of qualified specialists who work in both Armenian and foreign leading companies.
The field of information technology (IT) is continuously developing and changing, so the curriculum and its content taught within the educational programs offered by the Chair are regularly updated to meet the requirements of the field. The educational program implemented by the Chair is based on the international document "Global Competency Model for Graduate Degree Programs in Information Systems, MSIS 2016" jointly developed by the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Association of Information Systems (AIS).
Today, the new trends in the development of the IT sector are the use of methods based on artificial intelligence, and hierarchical, multi-layered architectures consisting of "Hardware", "Software" and "Firmware" systems, which are within the scope of the study by the Chair’s employees. The representatives of the teaching staff are recognized, experienced and skilled specialists in the field of IT, who, along with their pedagogical activities, perform scientific research, and are involved in Armenian and foreign grant programs.
The teaching staff members participate in prestigious grants such as ATT Bell Labs-Lucent Technologies (USA), U.S. CRDF (USA), INTAS (EU), NATO Science Fellowships Program, ISTC (USA, EU, Japan 2007-2009 .), DAAD (Germany, 2010-2012), TEMPUS (trans-European mobility for university studies, EU), Open Society Institute (OSI, 2001 - 2005, 2012-2014), EU FP, " The programs of Erasmus+ (2015-2018), the Science Committee of the RA Ministry of Education and Culture (Armenia, 2010-2013, 2015-2023). The research is mainly carried out in the directions of multiband automata analysis, fuzzy data processing, data conceptualization, formal models of distributed environments, electronic testing, and recovery of memory devices and systems.
The research outcomes are presented at national and international conferences, published in informatics and IT periodicals with a high impact factor, and in collections of articles from international conferences, such as Bulletin of the European Association on Theoretical Computer Science (EATCS), Theoretical Computer Science, Journal of Computer and System Sciences, Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Fundamenta Informaticae, Cybernetics and System Analysis, Programming and Computer Software, Bulletin of IEEE Technical Committee on Learning Technologies, Medical Informatics Europe, Studies in Health Technology and Informatics, IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems (TCAD), IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing (TETC), Journal of Electronic Testing. Theory and Applications (JETTA), IEEE International Test Conference (ITC), IEEE VLSI Test Symposium (VTS), Communication in Computer and Information Science (CCIS), and CEUR Workshop Proceedings (CEUR-WS).
Significantly, many references to the research outcomes published by the Chair can be found in the research works of international scientists. The large number of references indicates the global recognition and high ranking of scientists.
It is worth mentioning that the Chair professors are members of the committees of many prestigious international conferences (IEEE, EU COST 247 Action "Verification and Validation Methods for Formal Descriptions in Telecommunications", IEEE Pervasive E-Learning PEREL, IEEE East-West Design and Test Symposium (EWDTS), IEEE VLSI Test Symposium (VTS), Computer Science and Information Technologies (CSIT), European Conference on Advances in Databases and Information Systems (ADBIS)).
The representatives of the Chair have also authored about two dozen American patents.
