At the conclusion of the current academic year, the 2024 annual report of YSO Student Chapter of the international optics organizations "Optica" and "SPIE", operating under YSU Institute of Physics, was presented. The event was chaired by Gohar Chalayan, a second-year master's student at the Institute of Physics and former president of YSO.
The event opened with a speech by the Rector of Yerevan State University, H. Hovhannisyan. Emphasizing the importance of student initiatives in academic life, he highlighted the special significance of organizing the annual "Physics and Us" camp, which brings together senior and lower-year students in engineering programs. The rector also stressed the vital role of student organizations in the development of education and science, affirming that student engagement is an irreplaceable component in the advancement of both. He remarked, "Such events are crucial for students' personal and professional growth, as they provide opportunities to apply their knowledge practically, enhance teamwork, and develop social skills."
Following this, the activities of the organization over the past year were outlined. Shant Sargsyan, the President of YSO student organization, and Vice President Edvard Grigoryan delivered speeches, discussing various international scientific, cultural, and social events and initiatives. Among the highlights was the development of a spectrometer and a 2D laser printer, both of which have contributed to increased student participation in university life and greater curiosity about science. Also noteworthy was the creation of popular science articles on diverse topics, including gravitational lenses and optical reservoir calculations, aimed at enriching Armenian-language content. The process of article creation involved numerous meetings, discussions, and webinars. Students also have regular interactions with experts from leading global scientific institutions, such as NASA, IBM, and others. The speakers emphasized that the continued efforts of YSO will further strengthen the connection between students and the university, enhance students' social engagement, and foster creative thinking.
During the event, new ideas for collaborations, educational programs, and initiatives designed to enhance the student environment were presented, with plans for their implementation in the coming year.
