For the eighth consecutive year, YSU Faculty of History hosted the students participating in the Republican Stage of the History Olympiad. Holding the republican stage of the olympiad at the faculty is a great opportunity for students to get acquainted with university life and the institution itself.

On March 4 of this academic year, 116 students from 30 settlements across all regions of Armenia and Yerevan, who had passed the school and regional stages, participated in the Republican Stage of the History Olympiad for schoolchildren. The participants were welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of History, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Mkhitar Gabrielian, and the Head of the Chair of Armenian History, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Edik Minasyan.
Most of the members of the olympiad’s republican stage commission are representatives of the faculty's academic staff. The commission is headed by PhD, Associate Professor Mikayel Malkhasyan from the Chair of Armenian History at Yerevan State University.

During his speech, he reflected on the role of the faculty in organizing the Olympiad, stating: "By organizing the olympiad at the faculty, we pursue two main objectives. The first is to increase students' interest in the subject, and the second, as a logical continuation, is to deepen and apply their knowledge of history."
M. Malkhasyan also highlighted that the commission values students’ responses that are not merely mechanical, memorized answers, but rather knowledge-based responses. "Therefore, we have designed the tests in such a way that students can reach correct answers through logical thinking and the knowledge they have accumulated, which, although not verbatim in the textbooks, are consistent with the general education curriculum and students’ level of knowledge."
In the 2024-2025 academic year, a record number of students (5308) participated in the school stage of the History Olympiad. The olympiad is a leader in terms of the number of settlements and represented schools. This reflects the growing interest in the subject. Additionally, this year, for the first time, the commission members participated in preparing the tests for the school stage. They continually improve the tasks, making them more engaging.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia will award diplomas and scholarships to 24 students who participated in the republican stage of the olympiad, and 25 students will receive certificates of appreciation.
