About the program
Admission requirements
Within the framework of the same specialty, admission is held without exams, and the applicants with related specialties pass the final exam intended for the Bachelor's degree graduates of the relevant specialty.

The aim of the program
The "Theory and History of Art – Art Studies" Master's degree program aims to:
- Provide students with in-depth knowledge of the history and theory of Armenian and world art, the skills of describing and analyzing monuments and works of art,
- Familiarize with the methods of using the latest information technologies in professional research,
- Develop the critical thinking of art among students, as well as the skills of preparing reports, scientific articles, and lectures on topics of Armenian and world art history.
Advantages
Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to:
- Formulate the theoretical issues and concepts of Armenian and world art,
- Determine the time, place, artistic school, and artistic value of works of art, based on pictorial, stylistic, and comparative analysis,
- Determine the material value of works of art based on the modern requirements of the art market, business, and marketing principles,
- Challenge, prevent, and deny the appropriation of Armenian works of art by other nations, based on sufficient knowledge provided,
- Discover Armenian works of art looted by other nations because of the Genocide.
Career opportunities
Graduates of the program have the opportunity to work at Yerevan State University, Mesrop Mashtots Matenadaran, the National Museum of Armenia, the History Museum of Armenia, the Sardarapat Museum of Ethnography, the Museum of Russian Art, the Komitas Museum-Institute, the Art Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, the Cafesjian Art Institute, in various private galleries, in the Museum-Institute of Architecture named after Alexander Tamanyan, in private universities, colleges, schools, and travel agencies.
Art historians can be hired by the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, state and private research centers, state and private educational institutions, public schools, museums, libraries, tourism and publishing sectors, television and radio channels, press, private galleries, and art sales organizations. Graduates also have great job prospects in the gradually and necessarily increasing private art galleries that also sell artwork to buyers from abroad.
