Chair of Social and Clinical Psychology
The Chair of Social and Clinical Psychology was established in 2005. Initially called the Chair of Applied Psychology, it was renamed the Chair of Social Psychology four years later, and in 2018, it became the Chair of Social and Clinical Psychology.
The chair's activities began on the basis of the existing Chair of Psychology, which was founded in 1976 at YSU Faculty of Armenian Philology. Twenty-five years later, it became part of the Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology. In 2001, the chair was headed by Dr. Professor Gayane Shaverdyan, whose initiative led to a complete overhaul of the curriculum and the establishment of master's programs in psychology. The development of the chair and its educational programs contributed to the creation of the Chairs of Psychological Theory and History and Applied Psychology in 2005. Professor Gayane Shaverdyan continued to lead the chair. In 2009, the chair was renamed the Chair of Social Psychology, and in 2018, it became the Chair of Social and Clinical Psychology. In 2008, through the chair's efforts, the YSU Center for Applied Psychology was established, which is currently directed by D. Gevorgyan, a lecturer at the chair and accredited psychotherapist.
Over the years, the chair has organized numerous national and international conferences on contemporary issues in theoretical and applied psychology, the role of psychology within the system of sciences, the socio-psychological and pathological consequences of genocide, and the contributions of Abraham Maslow and Carl G. Jung to psychological science.
The chair staff comprises doctors and candidates of psychological sciences, assistant professors, and guest lecturers with extensive pedagogical and practical experience. They regularly participate in professional development programs and also organize qualification-enhancement and training courses. Thanks to their professional expertise and teaching skills, the chair ensures high-quality education and provides students with modern theoretical and practical knowledge.
The chair has also developed the highly sought-after "Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy" paster's program, which has been operating for 17 years. The educational programs offered by the Chair of Social and Clinical Psychology can be found in the "Educational Programs" section.
