Olivier D'Jeranian is a researcher and lecturer at both Panthéon-Sorbonne University and Nanterre University in Paris. His areas of expertise include ethics, ontology, logic, and the history of ancient philosophy, with a particular focus on Stoicism.
His research currently centers on the problem of logical fatalism in antiquity and its modern developments. Olivier D'Jeranian translated the works of the Stoic philosopher Epictetus from ancient Greek into French and authored a monograph on contemporary issues in Epictetus' philosophy.
A. Baghdasaryan, the Dean of Philosophy and Psychology Faculty, welcomed the speaker, emphasizing that cooperation with representatives from prominent universities in Paris will help find new ways to approach the current challenges in the field. S. Petrosyan, the Head of "Philosophy" educational program, gave an introductory speech, highlighting the importance of students' knowledge of philosophical sources and their ability to interpret them. The lecture took place in an engaging and interactive atmosphere. Olivier D'Jeranian presented the Stoic Greek sayings on inner freedom and responsibility, along with their interpretations, noting that the rational individual can achieve balance regardless of the external world’s uncertainties. The speaker also answered questions of the attendees.
After the meeting, discussions revolved around upcoming conferences planned in collaboration with the YSU Distance Laboratory of the Philosophy of History and the faculty’s student council, as well as the prospects for further cooperation with Olivier D'Jeranian.
