Chair of Political Science
Since 1991, the Chair of Political Science has been operating at Yerevan State University. From 1991 to 1998, it was included in the Faculty of Philosophy, Sociology, and Psychology, and then moved to the Faculty of International Relations.
By the decision of the YSU Academic Council in 2010, the two Chairs were reorganized from the Chair of Political Science:
1) History and theory of political science,
2) Political institutions and processes.
By the decision of the YSU Board of Trustees in 2022, based on those Chairs, the Chair of Political Science was formed again.
There are several trends in Chair development, in particular:
Creation and internationalization of political science infrastructure,
Training political scientists and strengthening the research potential of scientists,
Formation of a new methodological base for political research,
Study of political system and regime transformations,
Comparative analysis of political factors and processes, as well as national and regional security, world politics, and public policy issues.
The implementation of the political science course program in the educational process includes lectures, seminars, and analytical work by students on one of the problems of political science. It encourages students' independence and creativity while working with scientific and socio-political literature, and contributes to the formation of worldview, and social and political knowledge.
The Chair of Political Science conducts basic and applied research, with basic research related to theories of public authority and the political system, and applied research including concepts of public administration, party strategy and tactics, political analysis, and decision-making.
The head of the Chair of Political Science is Dr., Professor Ashot Aleksanyan.
