About the program
The "Food Safety" department of the Faculty of Chemistry prepares specialists in food chemistry and food safety. Graduates of the program work in various sectors of the economy of the republic, as well as in the management structures of the economy (ministries and their infrastructures).
Taking into account the high demand for food safety specialists in medium and small enterprises in the country, graduates of the department can successfully invest their acquired knowledge in the development of the economy.
Graduates will have fundamental knowledge of food science, particularly food safety, quality improvement, and food preservation, as well as production technologies (meat, beverage, dairy, etc.) and chemical composition and analysis of food. They will also get basic knowledge about cleaning and disinfecting agents, cosmetics and perfumes, materials science, dyes and adhesives, as well as agricultural chemicals. Graduates of the specialization will also master the theoretical and applied fundamentals of surface protection, mineral analysis, and polymer compounds.
The courses are taught through theoretical, practical, and laboratory classes, as well as internships are organized in food and household chemical productions operating in the republic.
In today’s world, the scientific rationales needed to understand and predict food properties, food processing, and shelf life are now widely used worldwide. All this led to revolutionary changes in food science and technology.
Taking into account the changes in the legislation of the Republic of Armenia in recent years, the application of new sector standards, and the approximation of Armenian standards to the ones of the European and Eurasian Economic Union, there is a demand for qualified specialists in the field of food safety in large, medium and small enterprises of the country.
