General information
Limiting the risks of mining regions affected by heavy metal pollution has become an urgent ecological problem. For the solution of this problem it is very important to quickly and accurately assess the degree of soil pollution and try to improve the contaminated areas by the most efficient and safe methods. The aim of the project is to evaluate in an integrated way and to early detect the process of soil degradation in mining regions of Armenia by the application of innovative methods, to identify the plant species that are more acceptable for application by different methods of phytoremediation and to determine the effects of some chelating agents on availability of heavy metals contained in polluted soils. It will make possible the development of economically sound and environmentally acceptable methods of application of these substances that will maximally increase the efficiency of phytoremediation process. Results of this project will facilitate more effective implementation of activities directed against soil degradation and will contribute to the prevention of inadmissible contamination of agricultural products.
