General information
Neurodegenerative diseases represent a major threat to human health. These age-dependent disorders are becoming increasingly prevalent, in part because the elderly population has increased in recent years. Examples of neurodegenerative diseases are Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, dementia and the ataxias. The number of people in Armenia with Alzheimer’s disease is expected to grow exponentially in the coming decades. Animal models have been widely used to study important aspects of brain-related pathologies in many areas of neuroscience. Histological, cellular, immunohistochemical methods will be used to study the pathological features of different parts of the brain in the conditions of neurodegeneration. The data obtained will be able to identify the main features of the effects of radiation and hypoxia in the development of neurodegeneration, as well as to identify the key importance of some cellular processes observed in neurodegenerative processes, in particular, apoptosis and neuroinflammation. The results of the study will serve as a basis for experimental study of neurodegeneration, to clarify the most important cellular and molecular processes of the latter, to develop guides to prevent it.
