General information
Anisotropic elastomers are homogeneous elastic macroscopic media with rotational symmetry of liquid crystals. General approach for the study of mechanical deformation properties of such elastomers is proposed in this project. The free energy, describing the mechanical and orientational deformations, will be derived. The stress tensor, Young’s moduli and Poisson’s ratios for parallel and perpendicular homogeneous orientations of nematic molecules in respect to the external forces action axis will be obtained by the variation of the free energy. We suggest direct measurement of all constants involved in the free energy, Young’s moduli and Poisson’s ratios with anisotropic behavior. Changes in optical properties (refractive indexes, spectral transmission and so on) during mechanical deformation of anisotropic elastomers based waveplates will be studied.
