General information
Notwithstanding the human rights violations and curtailment of political freedoms, Turkey with its secular social order and willingness for EU integration was considered for years as a successful example of the symbiosis of Islamic identity and Western values. Gradual distancing from the idea of EU integration, strengthening of Islamic vector within the country and revilitation of foreign policy by Justice and Development Party (AKP) that came to power in Turkey in 2002 showed that the country is trying to abandon the path of “Westernization” and is in search of a new model. It is becoming apparent from the statements of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that the model is going to counterpose Kemalism and side with the ideas of Turkish conservatism that has confronted secularism throughout the whole period of existence of the Republic. Within the framework of given research programme we will explore notable Turkish poet, novelist, playwright, ideologist of Islamic conservatism, the “Godfather” of President R.T. Erdoğan Necip Fazıl Kısakürek’s vast literary heritage, analyse the peculiarities of his model of Islamic conservatism as well as present how the salient points of Kısakürek’s philosophy that was already formed in 1960-70s are reflected in the ideology of AKP.
