General information
The project is aimed at studying Soviet industrial cities in Armenia and their post-industrial and post-soviet transformations. The majority of present-day Armenian cities were founded during the Soviet industrialization era, the composition of these cities' populations and their social and cultural developments were tied to industrial enterprises. The disintegration of the Soviet Union and the subsequent socio-cultural and geopolitical changes in Armenia following its independence have led to the de-modernization, destruction, and significant transformation of the population composition, social identities, and lifestyle in industrial cities. This situation prompts several crucial research questions regarding the underlying reasons, mechanisms, perceptions, public presentation, and potential future impacts of these processes. The primary objective of this project is to investigate these phenomena by focusing on select former industrial cities in Armenia. The outcome of the project will be the creation of scientific texts in both Armenian and English, presenting the raised research questions for public discussion across various scientific platforms.
