General information
This research project aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the Northern Talyshi lexicon by distinguishing between inherited words and borrowed vocabulary. Northern Talyshi exhibits a rich vocabulary shaped by extensive historical and linguistic interactions. The study will systematically categorize the lexicon into inherited and borrowed strata and will employ a combination of historical phonology, comparative methods, and philological research to achieve this goal. The project will focus on the following objectives:
- Identifying and classifying Northern Talyshi vocabulary into inherited and borrowed categories.
- Analyzing phonological, morphological, and semantic characteristics of these categories.
- Investigating the impact of historical and linguistic interactions on the Northern Talyshi lexicon.
Key research questions include examining the distribution and evolution of inherited words, understanding the integration and adaptation of borrowed terms from languages such as Persian, Azerbaijani, Russian, Arabic, and Armenian, and exploring dialectal variations within Northern Talyshi.
The outcomes of this project are expected to contribute significantly to the understanding of Northern Talyshi's lexical development and its interactions with other languages․
