Literary expert, Associate Professor
Nersisyan was born on December 24, 1931, in Yerevan. He began his studies at school No. 8, then moved to school No. 20 in Yerevan and graduated in 1949.
In 1954, Nersisyan graduated from the Romance-Germanic department of the YSU Faculty of Philology. In 1957, he completed his post-graduate studies.
From 1957-1959, L. Nersisyan worked in the "Hayfilm" film studio as a senior editor, and in 1959, became a researcher of the Art Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the ASSR.
From 1957, he taught theory of literature, ancient literature, literature of Western European countries, and aesthetics at YSU and Yerevan Art and Theater Institute. From 1961, Nersisyan worked as a lecturer at the Chair of Foreign Literature of YSU, from 1965, as a senior lecturer, and from 1992-1994, as an associate professor.
His areas of interest were ancient literature (especially ancient Greek poetry and drama), French literature of the 20th century ("Theatre of the Absurd", French novels, and surrealist poetry), which he taught with great enthusiasm, instilling a high literary taste in students along with deep knowledge. He also stood out with his brilliant acting skills and appeared in several feature films. L. Nersisyan was one of the most prominent figures of Armenian culture in the 1960s-1980s, the idol of many generations of students. The assurance of this is the audience named after him at YSU Faculty of Philology.
In 1998, Nersisyan was awarded the "Movses Khorenatsi" medal.
He passed away on November 27, 1999, in Yerevan.
On the wall of 39 Mashtots Avenue, Yerevan, there is a writing on a plaque devoted to Nersisyan: "The knight of spirit and freedom Levon Nersisyan lived here."
