Open classes at YSU STEM School
YSU STEM School organized open classes dedicated to the school's foundation day.
In the open classes organized under the supervision of teachers and initiated by Student Council, students presented the topics "Armenian schools: From ancient times to nowadays", "STEM education in the international domain" and "Famous university students". YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, Vice-Rector for Development and Innovation Mikayel Hovhannisyan and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Elina Asriyan were present at the open classes.
Director of YSU STEM School Aram Khachatryan, referring to the idea of founding the school, noted that the school opened its doors to students on September 1 of this year, and the proposal of the YSU Scientific Council regarding the foundation of the school was approved a year ago. "On December 6, 2022, the YSU Board of Trustees made a decision to approve the proposal of the YSU Scientific Council and to create a new structural unit- "YSU STEM School". On the occasion of this important event, today, as a symbolic day, we have organized open classes. And on September 1 of the next school year, we will celebrate the first anniversary of the school's activity with great pomp."
Aram Khachatryan, emphasizing the importance of founding the school, noted that the idea of founding a STEM school arose primarily due to the development of science in our country, since the development of STEM education is a priority not only in Armenia, but throughout the world.
The students, talking about their motivation for choosing YSU STEM school, mentioned that they have loved science subjects since childhood, and studying at YSU and daily contact with experienced teachers will help them in their professional orientation. They assured that they aim to boost the development of science with their innovations.
YSU STEM School is a high school, where the teaching of "Algebra", "Geometry", "Physics", "Chemistry", "Biology" and "English" subjects is organized within the framework of the "YSU Schools Network" educational program developed by YSU teaching staff.
The students of the school have the opportunity to work in YSU laboratories, attend the gyms and the library, as well as to get acquainted with and participate in the scientific research works carried out by YSU professors and students, to perform various scientific experiments under the supervision of university scientists.
Now 36 students are studying in three classes of YSU STEM school.
