YSU as a guarantee of professional advancement
YSU graduate Anahit Margaryan is a doctoral student at the University of Cadiz (Spain). She talked about getting an education at YSU, continuing her education at Cadiz University, educational programs, and cooperation with universities.
While studying at the Faculty of European Languages and Communication (formerly the Faculty of Romano-Germanic Philology) of YSU, Anahit's interest in Spanish prompted her to enroll in various educational programs. From the first years of her studies, she participated in the activities of the YSU Student Scientific Society (SSU). Moreover, in 2016, she was the winner of the "Best Student of the Republic of Armenia" national competition.
University education is a solid foundation for future success.
Growing up in the family of a literary scholar and a poet contributed to my professional choice. I was very interested in the idea of continuing and developing new family traditions. My family learned about the choice of Spanish studies only after filling out the admission application, which was a surprise for everyone.
Thanks to the experienced professors and the methods developed by them, by the end of the second year I was speaking and writing Spanish fluently and competently. Combining studies and work, I started teaching Spanish in different centers. Even not in a Spanish-speaking country, thanks to my university education I was fluent in the language at the level of scientific, multi-layered vocabulary, and complex syntactic structures.
University education took me to the University of Cádiz.
I continued my professional path with the "Intercultural Communication and Spanish" Master's program, which allowed me to study in the framework of "Erasmus+" at the University of Cádiz, where I continued my studies for two semesters. During that time, I also managed to get an extraordinary admission to a doctoral program at the same university under the supervision of Professor Miguel Casas Gómez and Professor Pamela Faber of the University of Granada, who are distinguished scientists in Europe. Miguel Casas is the director of the Institute of Applied Linguistics, which is considered an exclusive research center in Europe.
Having studied in Europe and the United States of America, the knowledge I gained at YSU has always given me a reason to be proud and still does. Being on campus is an honor and a blessing. Those who have made their way with their knowledge and education, recording achievements, will understand me.
The graduate is a unique link between the two universities.
As a result of the cooperation, a center was opened with two residences: YSU (Armenian-Spanish auditorium) and Cadiz University (Armenian-Spanish center). There was no such center before, and this is the innovation of the program. The Armenian-Spanish audience at YSU was created due to the efforts of YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, Dean of the Faculty of European Languages and Communication Gevorg Barseghyan, and Head of the Department of Romance Philology, Professor Hasmik Baghdasaryan, as well as thanks to continuous hard work in the field of international cooperation. It is noteworthy that the vice-rector for internationalization of the University of Cadiz Rafael Jimenez, the head of the Linguistic Policy Department Javier de Cos, and the head of the University Center for Cooperation with Eastern Europe and Central Asia Andres Santana arrived in Armenia a few months ago on the official opening of the auditorium.
The partnership with the University of Cádiz is memorable, even historic. It is also the result of nearly five years of work with that university. Cooperation created mutual trust, which became one of the foundations for the establishment of the Armenian-Spanish Center at the University of Cadiz.
Another initiative is becoming a reality with the efforts of the RA Government Program, the ESCS Ministry, and the RA Embassy in Spain. It refers to the possibility of opening one of the Armenian studies network centers at the University of Cadiz.
Continuity of scientific activity creates many paths
I still have scientific articles published in RA and Artsakh scientific periodicals from my Student Scientific Society membership years. I should especially highlight my bilingual (Spanish-Armenian) book published by YSU publishing house in 2022: "G. Guarch: Interview for the History ", the presentation of which took place at the University of Cádiz. The book is dedicated to the great philanthropist, skilled connoisseur of the history of the Armenian people, Spanish novelist G. Guarch. His "Armenian Trilogy" stories theoretically and practically tell millions of foreign people about Armenian-Turkish relations. My analyses are related to the poetics and historicity of his works. YSU Publishing House also presented the book at the Frankfurt International Book Fair.
It is no coincidence that just a few days ago, "Armenian Tree" by G. Guarch was republished in Spain and Latin America, with my voluminous foreword in Spanish, about which the first professional reactions in Spain were impressive.
A few days ago, I returned from the United States of America, where I concluded my several-month-lasting stay among the academic circles of Harvard and Michigan. Next year, my doctoral dissertation will be defended at the University of Cadiz on "The Discourse of Conflict in the Spanish Sources on the Armenian Cause and its Translations", which chronologically includes the Armenian Genocide and the course of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
My biggest dream is to see Armenia in the process of sustainable development, and the only way to achieve that is through education.
We do not have many resources, but we have a lot of potential, thanks to which we can create the country of our dreams.
I have recently read a quote by Thomas Edison. He said that he strongly believed in luck, as the harder, he worked, the luckier he got. Therefore, I advise students to work hard and discover the character that inspires them.
