The Latest Equipment as Guarantee of Increasing Research Work Efficiency

Within the framework of the "Acquisition of Scientific Devices/Equipment" competition announced by the Higher Education and Science Committee of RA MօESCS in 2023, the center has been equipped with new equipment that will provide opportunity to determine the type and quantity of organic substances in different gaseous and liquid environments.

Speaking about the opportunities provided by the devices, the Director of the YSU Research Institute of Biology, Associate Professor of Biological Sciences, Karen Trchounian noted that thanks to the devices it is possible to determine, for example, the chemical composition of endemic plants growing in Armenia, substances produced during fermentation or respiration in various biological processes, composition of waste before and after processing, etc.

"If until now our waste processing group was looking for the material in the composition of the waste that was already known to us, now, thanks to these devices, we have the opportunity to determine the unknown materials as well, which is progress," said Karen Trchounian.

The devices will be used both in conducting scientific research and in the educational process, particularly in laboratory work, so they will be used not only by postgraduate students and researchers but also by graduate and undergraduate students under the supervision of staff.

"This is an important achievement also from the point of view that in this way, our students get to know the latest devices during their university studies and master the mechanism and methodology of working with them, which opens the door to the labor market and makes the work process easier," emphasized Karen Trchounian. 

Referring to the constant transformations and developments in the field of science nowadays, K. Trchounian said. "Today, only human potential is not enough to achieve success, so the acquisition of equipment is just a necessity for conducting research with new data, not losing our competitiveness and ensuring the continuity of our success on the international stage. Previously, due to the lack of modern equipment, we conducted research abroad, composed an article with our foreign colleagues and published it. But now they want to use our equipment and do their research work at our institute. We already have such cases, which is highly commendable."

It should be noted that the accredited specialist of "Agilent Technologies" an international company conducted a training course for the employees of the YSU Research Institute of Biology to familiarize them with the installation, working mechanism and details of the devices. In the future, other similar training courses will be held regularly.
