The active involvement of students and teaching staff in research activities is one of the priority goals of Yerevan State University. In order to achieve this goal, the university regularly conducts renovation of auditoriums and laboratories and enriches them with modern equipment.
A part of the building of the YSU Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics was renovated and furnished in accordance with modern standards, within the framework of the contracts signed by YSU with "Philip Morris Armenia" LLC and "Acba Bank" OJSC.
Renovation works at the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics beganin early 2023 and ended in July of the same year. In total, 6 offices and 5 auditoriums were renovated and furnished.
Within the framework of the cooperation between Acba Bank and YSU, there will be a joint-use auditorium where courses aimed at the development of the company will be held.
Within the framework of the contract signed between YSU and "Philip Morris Armenia" company, both repair and furnishing works, as well as scientific studies were performed related to 3 different projects presented by the company.
Mikayel Poghosyan, member of the management team of research groups, Associate Professor of the Chair of Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics, talking about the ways of cooperation, mentioned that within the framework of the projects mathematical researches were carried out, numerical methods for solving differential equations were presented, huge data of the company was processed and reasonable solutions were proposed․
The representatives of "Philip Morris Armenia" company, highlighting the continuity of cooperation with the YSU Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, emphasized that this is another successful cooperation with YSU.
Speaking about the work carried out under the supervision of YSU researchers, the company's representatives mentioned. "There was a certain problem in our organization- finding a reliable partner for carrying out mathematical research. Taking into account that the best specialists in the field are in the university, we decided to cooperate with YSU. The research objectives were clearly defined and aligned with the objectives of the project. Data collection, analysis and interpretation were effectively implemented, thanks to which a systemic solution is given to the defined problem."
The research cooperation between YSU and the company launched in November 2023 and continues up to now. The representatives of the company state that the cooperation not only creates an opportunity to solve the current problems of the organization, but is also a very serious investment in training experienced personnel in the country and giving a new impetus to the development of this branch of science.
Arthur Sahakyan, Dean of the YSU Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, highlighting the role of mathematics in science, emphasized: "Mathematics appears in any field and has a wide application, ranging from the fields of economics, medicine to the human sciences. Mathematics is also closely connected to the field of IT, as well as the fields of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, which have been developing rapidly in recent years. In this sense, mathematics is considered the queen of sciences. Therefore, as in the whole world, as well as in our country, in recent years more attention has been paid to the development of natural sciences, particularly mathematics."
In this context, Artur Sahakyan quoted famous physicist Albert Einstein's words, "Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school." He added that mathematical education is important not so much in terms of the knowledge it provides, but in terms of developing radical thinking and the abilities to analyze theoretical knowledge, create algorithms, which can only be obtained with a solid mathematical education.
