Formal ceremony for awarding graduation certificates to international students at YSU
The academic year 2023-2024 at the Preparatory Courses Department of the YSU Center for Admissions and Affairs with Applicants concluded with a festive event where twenty-three graduates were awarded their graduation certificates.
Every year, dozens of students from different countries worldwide apply to YSU to study the Armenian language and explore Armenian culture and Armenia itself. The YSU Preparatory Courses Department offers non-Armenian-speaking citizens the opportunity to learn or improve their Armenian language skills, along with acquiring knowledge in general educational programs (mathematics, history, chemistry, biology, geography, foreign language, etc.).
Twenty-three students from China, Japan, India, Bangladesh, Holland, Switzerland, Russia and Iran have successfully completed the 2023-2024 academic year.
Lilit Gasparyan, Head of the Preparatory Courses Department at the YSU Center for Admissions and Affairs with Applicants, spoke about the knowledge students acquired during the academic year, noting: "During this one year, our students not only learned to speak, write and read Armenian, but also studied Armenian history and culture. They traveled to many historical and cultural sites, engaged in conversations in Armenian, loved the Armenian people and Armenia. I am proud to note that most of our students aim to continue their education at Yerevan State University, which I consider an important and significant achievement."
Visits to various historical and cultural sites were organized under the leadership of Armenian language lecturer Simon Petrosyan. He not only ensured the comprehensive study of the Armenian language in the auditoriums, but also played a key role in making Armenia more recognizable to foreign students.
Elina Asriyan, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at YSU, referring to the graduation ceremony, emphasized: "Dear students, I am happy that today I can speak with you in Armenian. This achievement is, of course, thanks to the efforts of the dedicated staff and professors of the YSU Preparatory Courses Department. You have not only learned one of the most complex and beautiful languages in the world, but you have also become people who hold Armenia in your hearts. I am sure that from now on you will keep not only a part of YSU in a corner of your heart and soul, but will also become important 'ambassadors' in your countries, spreading the rich culture, long history, language and national peculiarities of Armenia."
Highlighting the importance and necessity of continuous education, E. Asriyan added: "We will be glad to see you in different faculties at YSU. Be sure you will enrich your knowledge in each faculty, while simultaneously developing new abilities and skills. I believe that we will go a long way with you and achieve significant milestones."
The speeches were followed by the festive event, during which the foreign students congratulated each other with beautiful words and speeches in Armenian. Wang Zihua, fully fluent in Armenian, emphasized that mastering the Armenian language opens doors to new horizons and professional achievements. Furthermore, Wang Zihua loved Armenia and the Armenian language so much that he introduces himself to his Armenian friends as Ishkhan. According to him, his Chinese name is translated into Armenian as "king's son", that is why he chose that name.
As a reminder, the admission of foreign citizensis carried out by the "Procedure of admission of foreign citizens to RA higher educational institutions" approved by the relevant decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia. According to this procedure, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia accepts the applicants' documents.
