Professor Ara Sanjyan from University of Michigan-Dearborn visits YSU
Ara Sanjyan, Associate Professor of Historical Sciences, Director of the Armenian Research Center at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, delivered a lecture series at the YSU Faculty of History. His lectures focused on interpreting the concepts of "Diaspora" and the "History of the Diaspora", emphasizing the importance of studying the past of Diaspora Armenians.
Ara Sanjyan's research delves into the history of Armenia, Turkey, and the Arab states of West Asia post-World War I. The professor is also actively involved in studying modern Armenian historiography.
A. Sanjyan also presented the history of the Diaspora from 1920 to 1991, talking about whether it is a history of religious, political, sports, educational and cultural institutions or whether it is more. He also discussed the changes in their activities over the decades, the roles of transnational and local Armenian institutions, and emphasized the political developments in international and host states, underscoring the perception of identity - specifically the importance of preserving Armenians as a nation.
One of the topics of his lectures was dedicated to the modern genres of historiography and the future of the study of Armenian history.
Representatives of the YSU Faculty of History, along with postgraduate and undergraduate students, attended the lectures.
