YereMUN 2024: international conference launches at YSU
From July 8 to 12, Yerevan State University is hosting the "Yerevan Model United Nations" (YereMUN 2024) international conference. As part of this international conference, participants have the opportunity to represent any country in the UN committee during dynamic debates, as well as to discuss universal issues.
The "YereMUN 2024" conference is an annual event held in Yerevan, Armenia, bringing together young people from around the globe to Yerevan State University (YSU) for the second consecutive year. In this recognized format, students and pupils participate as delegates, representing various countries and engaging in diplomatic discussions on global issues. This international conference offers a unique opportunity to enhance negotiation skills, deepen understanding of international relations, and forge lasting cooperative relationships. Beyond serving as a platform for debates, the conference facilitates interactions with diplomats and ambassadors, fostering new friendships across borders.
YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, attaching importance to holding this conference, said: "We are happy to host you at Yerevan State University once again. The previous conference, within which many new ideas were born, was also a great experience. Remember, studying or doing an internship at an educational institution, as well as participating in a conference or seminar, in addition to gaining extensive experience, the most valuable outcome is often the connections you make—new friends and new acquaintances. Rest assured, the knowledge, skills and connections you acquired during this conference will help you in your future endeavors."
Vruyr Hlghatyan, President of the "Yerevan Model United Nations-2024" conference, spoke to us about the establishment and "mission" of the organization, highlighting that it was founded through joint efforts of Armenian and French students."
"Our goal is to foster diplomacy, international relations, and education for young people. During the conference, participants will assume the roles of diplomats and engage in debates aimed at addressing various global issues. The agenda includes debates, meetings with diplomatic representatives and ambassadors, as well as social events where delegates will come together, adhering to appropriate dress codes, to communicate and explore the multifaceted nature of diplomacy," Vruyr Hlghatyan emphasized.
The participants of the "YereMUN 2024" conference include students, as well as pupils not only from Yerevan but also from Armenian provinces. Additionally, international delegates from countries such as France, Greece, Spain, India, the USA, China, Russia, and Belarus have also come to participate in the conference.
As for why Yerevan State University was chosen for cooperation, the founder of the conference pointed out: "YSU is a highly ranked university in Armenia, and we strive to increase that ranking by setting YSU on the path of internationalization, so that people know more about this educational institution. We aim to continue our cooperation with YSU."
Lilit Manukyan, Secretary General of "YereMUN 2024", referring to the chosen format, reminded that the conference focuses on dialogue, diplomacy and collective human potential. The conference is a "living mechanism" where "young minds" come together to tackle the world's important problems.
“MUN is a model of the UN that is implemented in many countries. The model is a simulation of a UN session, which goes beyond being merely an academic event. Future diplomats and leaders who will form the backbone of various international structures convene here. Today there is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the art of negotiations, to find innovative solutions, to express positions and points of view. We receive proposals and aim to send Armenian delegates to upcoming conferences hosted abroad," said L. Manukyan.
This year, around 85 pupils and students are participating in the conference, who will be divided into delegations, receiving tasks and problems. They will debate and represent the interests of various countries.
At the end of the conference, all attendees will receive certificates of participation, and the best delegates will receive prizes.
"YereMUN" is a non-governmental organization founded in May 2023. The organization brings together young people to promote diplomatic initiatives, advance education and highlight the fundamental principles upheld by the United Nations.
