Our education makes us competitive in the international arena- YSU student Artyom Ghazaryan
Artyom Ghazaryan, a fourth-year student at the YSU Faculty of Economics and Management, took part in the 13th All-Russian Conference titled "Problems and Ways of Socio-Economic Development: City, Region, Country, World" specifically designed for students and post-graduate scholars. Artyom talked about the importance of participating in the conference, his presented article, and shared additional insights.
Choosing a profession was a difficult decision for Artyom Ghazaryan. He wavered for a long time between medicine and economics, but his passion for understanding economic processes ultimately prevailed. Currently, he is interested in the process of economic research, staying updated on current trends, and studying the work of leading specialists in the field. During his studies, Artyom actively participated in and volunteered for various university events.
To improve his professional skills, Artyom participated in internationally accredited courses and conferences. This year, he participated in the online conference "Problems and Ways of Socio-Economic Development: City, Region, Country, World" held in St. Petersburg.
- Artyom, could you tell us about the relevance of the topic presented at the conference?
- Leningrad State University named after A.S. Pushkin organized the 13th All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference, which was attended by around 60 students and postgraduate students from various countries. The conference aimed to enhance research skills, broaden knowledge, and facilitate the exchange of experience among participants.
At the conference, I presented an article on the importance of the risk premium and its impact on investors' decisions. Recognizing the significance of understanding the behavior of investors, I tried to conduct a study that would reveal the motives behind their actions. This research is particularly important for developing countries, as it sheds light on investors’ behavior under varying risk premium conditions. I examined why investors choose to hold assets in different currencies, finding that the risk premium is a major factor. By measuring fluctuations in the risk premium, I analyzed how investor behavior changes with its rise or fall. The main finding was that under high-risk conditions, investors tend to move their assets from risky currencies to more stable foreign currencies. I used econometric models to reach these conclusions, and the results not only met our objectives but also sparked additional discussions among foreign conference participants.
The topics covered at the conference primarily focused on socio-economic development trends, the socio-economic management of regions and cities, and the challenges facing current systems and institutions.
- What did you gain from participating in this conference?
- Participating in this conference was a valuable opportunity to gain new knowledge. It allowed me to present my research to an international audience, receive sound criticisms from field experts, and learn about the research conducted by foreign scholars and their methodologies. Additionally, it was a chance to present our university's research capabilities and demonstrate the quality of research work that students can achieve from their early academic years.
Attending international conferences also provides insight into the economic education of participants from other countries, allowing us to benchmark and compare our own education against global standards. I should mention that this is a good opportunity to make sure that with the education received at YSU, we remain competitive on the international stage. YSU provides students with the opportunity to acquire foundational knowledge and apply it in the professional field. Looking ahead, I plan to focus on macroeconomic research and aim to publish scientific articles in prestigious international journals.
- What steps do you think are necessary to be successful in the field of science?
- I think that love for the profession, hard work, and patience are the main factors needed to succeed in the field of science, and the compassionate advice of experienced professionals helps when taking the first steps in the field.
