Celebrating 90 years of excellence: Jubilee for YSU Geography and Geology Faculty
YSU Faculty of Geography and Geology is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. To commemorate this occasion, an event titled "90 Years of Excellence" will take place at the university. The celebration will highlight the faculty's journey, showcasing its recorded successes and achievements. Dean Sargis Kelyan has presented the program of the jubilee event.
Despite numerous proposals from colleagues to hold the event at various cultural, public, and business centers, Sargis Kelyan, Dean of YSU Faculty of Geography and Geology has decided to host the celebration exclusively at YSU. This decision aims to create a platform for the university community to unite.
The event will not only summarize the faculty's remarkable journey but will also serve as a significant opportunity to share its future vision and initiate new collaborations with the professional community.
According to the Dean of the Faculty, the day will be marked by the most important event: the opening of the GeoInnovation Educational Center, named in honor of the distinguished geologist Petros Aloyan. This center has been renovated and equipped to meet international standards, under the auspices of Petros Aloyan's family.
During the event, the creation of an advisory body affiliated with the faculty will be announced, having already received prior approval from the faculty's academic council.
The advisory body will include highly successful graduates of the faculty who are recognized and accomplished specialists in their fields, ready to support and contribute to the faculty’s development and progress in every possible way.
Commemorative medals dedicated to the faculty's 90th anniversary were issued as part of the jubilee event. Proceeds from their sale will fund scholarships for students, aimed at encouraging high academic performance during their studies.
The faculty's history will be captured in a short film, created through extensive research of archival documents.
During the event, a cultural interlude is planned, featuring performances by prize-winning students from the faculty who are also members of the YSU Cultural Center.
Sargis Kelyan also noted that in celebration of the faculty's 90th anniversary, an international conference titled "Actual Problems of the Use of Resource Potential, Territorial Organization, and Economic Development" was held on May 31. The conference featured renowned scientists from seven countries who presented key priorities in geological and geographical sciences. He mentioned plans to hold similar conferences regularly in the future, providing faculty representatives with opportunities to present their research on current and developmental issues in the field.
We are pleased to invite you to a special jubilee event celebrating the 90th anniversary of the faculty. Join us on November 15 at 12:00 p.m. in Great Hall, YSU.
