Solemn session marks 90th anniversary of YSU Economics and Management Faculty
The YSU Faculty of Economics and Management recently celebrated its 90th anniversary and the 40th anniversary of its reopening. This event provided an opportunity to reflect on the faculty's achievements over the past century, re-evaluate its educational and scientific contributions, and honor the esteemed specialists and graduates who have dedicated considerable effort to the faculty’s development.
The choir of the YSU Charles Aznavour Cultural Center opened the event with the anthem of Yerevan State University. The solemn session, held in the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall, celebrated the faculty's long-standing and successful history. This gathering brought together students, professors, graduates, and accomplished specialists in the field, who shared insights about the faculty's achievements, competitive specialists in the field, and potential advancements.
In the official opening of the solemn session, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, the Rector of Yerevan State University, delivered a speech. Emphasizing the importance of economic education, he stated, "Founded in 1934, the YSU Faculty of Economics and Management is an integral and most pivotal part of the university, serving as a powerful professional and scientific center. Over the past 90 years, the faculty has educated more than a thousand students, imparting professional values and cultivating specialists who have significantly contributed to the advancement of both the country’s and the global economy with their expertise. This jubilee year presents a wonderful opportunity to reevaluate our path and pay tribute to all those who have contributed to the faculty’s development through their dedicated work."
Karlen Khachatryan, the Dean of YSU Faculty of Economics and Management, emphasized the faculty’s achievements, noting that this day is historic.
"We can affirm that the past 90 years have been marked by both challenges and achievements. In Armenia, higher economic education began to take shape in the early 1920s, coinciding with the foundation of the mother university. In 1934, when the first faculty was established within the university, Armenia was experiencing a difficult period. Throughout these challenging years, this faculty has become the main center for the formation, dissemination, and development of economic thought. To this day, the faculty carries out its mission of establishing high-quality specialists with honor and excellence," pointed out K. Khachatryan, who added that they are ready for new challenges, achievements, and accomplishments.
Since 1934, the faculty has produced tens of thousands of graduates who have become experienced professionals, working in various sectors of the economy, within the state administration system, and at research centers and universities. Hayk Stepanyan, Chief Executive Officer of Byblos Bank Armenia CJSC, is one of the faculty's graduates. According to him, education is the foundation of society and the guarantee that paves the way for innovation, leadership, and development.
"It is a great honor for me to represent Byblos Bank Armenia here as a graduate of YSU Faculty of Economics and Management. For 90 years, the faculty has been the most important center of economic education in Armenia, training statesmen, business leaders, and economists who have played a key role in the development of Armenia's economy. I would also like to emphasize that the cooperation between Byblos Bank Armenia and YSU Faculty of Economics and Management is a step to give thanks and 'return' the acquired knowledge and personal successes. We hope this will contribute to creating broader opportunities for future generations," noted Hayk Stepanyan, highlighting the significant role the faculty has played in establishing the economy of independent Armenia. He expressed hope that the coming decades will also be fruitful for the faculty.
