The university provides an opportunity for self-discovery: YSU student Ashot Lachinyan
Ashot Lachinyan is a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Economics and Management at Yerevan State University, known for his active participation and unique way of thinking. Alongside his academic studies at YSU, he actively participates in scientific events and strives to apply his knowledge in various fields. Ashot believes that his scientific research can contribute to the development of the country's economy, and that the education and knowledge he has gained at the university provide a solid foundation for becoming a qualified and competitive specialist.
Ashot made his decision about his career path back in high school, thanks to the "Business" course, which helped him discover his abilities and become familiar with economic thinking. He is convinced that choosing to study at Yerevan State University was the best decision he made.
Ashot himself shares his experiences of student life.
The Role of YSU in Shaping the Lives of Me and Many Other Students
At the university, both professors and students are always willing to help and lend a hand to each other when any issues arise. The people in our environment are open to discussions, ready to listen to constructive criticism, and understand that no one can be an expert in all areas. Often, it’s necessary to consider the advice of others. My new ideas, which can sometimes seem "revolutionary", greatly benefit from constructive criticism, as it is crucial for personal growth and development.
As a student, I am quite active and regularly participate in both university-wide and faculty-specific events. Whenever possible, I strive to take the lead in organizing interesting meetings and discussions, which, in my view, serve as a valuable source of practical and solid knowledge for both myself and my friends.
During his studies, Ashot has conducted several research studies, particularly focusing on the analysis of the mortgage market, agro-industry, and economic development indicators in the Republic of Armenia. His research is driven by the relevance to the country’s economy and aims to gain a deeper understanding of the potential risks associated with these areas.
Gaining Valuable Experience Through Research
During my studies, I conducted two research projects on the mortgage market, driven by my interest in the market’s dynamic development, where certain shifts occur and new risks emerge.
The topic of agro-industry has become particularly relevant and interesting, especially during the months of the Artsakh blockade. Agro-industry is a sector that, due to a combination of various factors, has the potential to address the country’s food security challenges. This topic is both broad and promising, and I believe that in the future, I will have the opportunity to present more objective results from this research.
From time to time, I also conduct research on economic development, with the goal of analyzing the state of the economy and developing proposals for its improvement.
The Importance of Correctly Identifying and Defining the Problems
Due to my work, I am able to conduct more in-depth research and present its findings to policymakers. Every research project is aimed at correctly identifying and defining the problem; once this is done, decision-making becomes much easier and more predictable. I hope that the experience I have gained will enable me to make my work more focused and effective in the future.
I already have a clear idea and a well-defined problem for writing a scientific article, so I am confident that I will achieve my goal in the coming months.
The University’s Academic Environment as a Platform for Self-Discovery and Critical Thinking
Studying at our faculty and having the opportunity to interact daily with scientists and professors who possess similar or diverse perspectives is already a significant achievement. By acquiring new information and skills every day, I am confident that I will become a good economist, using my knowledge primarily to contribute to the development of our country’s economy.
In parallel with his research and education, Ashot applies the knowledge he has gained in practice. He works at one of the Armenian banks, where his responsibilities involve developing strategies for businesses and the state, as well as providing consulting services.
Whenever we reach a conclusion, we all feel confident that our decision is well-considered. I truly enjoy this process and go to work every day with enthusiasm, driven by the desire to make a positive change.
Analyzing Mistakes and Moving Towards Solutions on the Path to Success
In my opinion, one should study a lot, not be afraid of making mistakes, and strive to assimilate information that may prove useful at some point. I do not agree with the opinion that theoretical knowledge is less important, as throughout the history of economics, many problems could have been avoided if decisions had been based on historical experience and existing theoretical knowledge. On the other hand, one of the keys to success in science is not fearing mistakes, trying again, and believing in one's own strengths.
Ashot Lachinyan, a student at YSU Faculty of Economics and Management, plans to continue his education in the master's program, driven by numerous goals that he is pursuing with clear, purposeful steps. He believes that the belief in achieving goals through steady progress and confidence can serve as a crucial source of motivation on the path to success.
