Diligence, time management, and perseverance: YSU student Lida Yeghiazaryan’s success story
Student life is both challenging and filled with significant opportunities that contribute to professional development. Lida Yeghiazaryan, a student at Yerevan State University, reflected on her academic journey, discussing her achievements, the obstacles she faced in her pursuit of becoming a professional, and the importance of being goal-oriented and continually striving for excellence.
Lida Yeghiazaryan, a 4th-year student at YSU Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology, is among the awardees of this year’s competition for the named scholarships designated for top-performing students at Armenian universities. She noted that renowned psychologist and psychotherapist Elda Green, whose work primarily revolves around psychiatry, psychotherapy, and personal development, inspired her decision to pursue her field of study.
Challenges in the Early Years of University Life
Like many students, Lida faced the challenges of university life during her first year, including adapting to a new environment, adjusting to a student lifestyle, and settling into a new academic routine. She overcame these challenges with the support of her family and friends, as well as through her self-organization skills. Now, Lida describes her student life in one word - fantastic.
"My successes are largely due to the Student Council, which makes every day lively and filled with warm and pleasant emotions. Student life is 'enriched' through participation in various recreational events, as well as by realizing new, unique ideas and engaging in student adventures. In my opinion, a student is someone who can balance various jobs and pursuits. Alongside my active student life, I am also involved in various scientific events. My participation in conferences and seminars is not limited to the university; I strive to engage in professional conferences, seminars, and training sessions," Lida says.
Time Management: The Key to Success
When asked how she manages to organize her day, Lida points out that effective time management is the main secret behind her success. Planning her tasks and the ability to complete everything on time enable her to approach her goals with enthusiasm and passion.
"I believe that the cornerstone of every profession is fundamental and in-depth education, which we receive at YSU. Thanks to this education, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of my field, which serves as a foundation for developing my professional skills. The educational system at YSU equips students with professional thinking, worldview, and methodology to become well-versed specialists," she emphasizes.
Lida’s achievements are not only the result of time management but also her courage, determination, and perseverance.
Expectations and Achievements
When asked whether she expected to win the competition, she says, "Of course, I hoped and wanted to, but I wasn’t entirely sure I would be among the winners. However, what was remarkable was that I found out about my success on two of the most significant days of my life. On my birthday, I learned that I was the student selected from Yerevan State University in the field of social sciences. And the news of my victory came just the day before New Year's. I received the best gifts on my two favorite holidays."
Reflecting on her most important achievement during her university years, Lida highlights her friends, whom she met during her studies and with whom she created the brightest memories of her life.
Lida has an interesting approach to failure as well—it is something she views as an opportunity rather than an obstacle. She sees failures as stages for learning and self-improvement, which help shape her personal world. She is not afraid of making mistakes, as they help her grow stronger.
Scientific Activities as Part of Professional Development
Speaking about her scientific activities, Lida points out: "I try not to miss any scientific seminars or conferences. Currently, I have published an article titled 'Psychological and Symbolic Analysis of the First Branch of the Epic Sasuntsi Davit'. The importance of this article lies in its examination of the ethnopsychological manifestations of the Armenian national character, spirit, mentality, behavior, and personality in the epic. This study can contribute to the development of new approaches to ethnic self-awareness and identification for young people."
In addition to her studies, Lida has been working in her field since her second year at the university and plans to continue her education in a master’s program, followed by a PhD. She aspires to work as a lecturer at YSU in the future.
Lida Yeghiazaryan, who is also fond of music, movies, and psychological literature, has shared some interesting facts about herself through the "Student Diary" questionnaire, which includes completing unfinished sentences. Lida completed the sentences as follows:
The first time at the university, I discovered my true "self", largely thanks to my professional knowledge.
For me, YSU is my second home.
Education at university is not just about attending lectures, it is a process of developing critical thinking, solving problems, creating, and ensuring personal growth.
What I like about YSU is the students and their enthusiasm.
At the university, I would introduce new psychological support programs aimed at ensuring students' well-being.
One interesting fact about me is that I can manage everything I want and need—education, work, and leisure.
If I could travel to the future, I would look at my present "self" and be proud of what I have achieved.
