Innovative devices open up opportunities for international-level research
The Basic and Pathological Biochemistry Laboratory at Yerevan State University has received a state-of-the-art cellular analyzer and several other advanced devices that will contribute to a deeper investigation of cellular interactions and the effects of medications. These new devices will enable the laboratory to produce scientific results that meet the standards of the international scientific community.
Research Directions of the Laboratory
Nikolay Avtandilyan, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Head of the Basic and Pathological Biochemistry Laboratory at YSU Faculty of Biology, emphasizes that the laboratory conducts research across a wide range of biological and biochemical fields. For instance, the study of the anticancer and antidiabetic properties of natural and synthetic compounds places particular importance on the in-depth analysis of phenomena occurring within cells and in intercellular interactions.
Newly Acquired Equipment
As part of the "Acquisition of Scientific Equipment/Devices" competition announced by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, the laboratory has been replenished with several state-of-the-art devices essential for biochemical research, including a real-time cell analyzer.
The cell analyzer consists of multiple modules. The confocal microscope allows for the examination of intracellular interactions using fluorescent dyes. Another module ensures the continuous online monitoring of the direct effects of medications. The third module enables the observation of cancer cell movement, the impact of tested substances on their motility, and their anti-metastatic or anti-invasive effects. The fourth module is designed for the programmed freezing of cells for long-term storage.
New Opportunities for International-Level Research
According to Nikolay Avtandilyan, the laboratory's advanced devices represent key tools in biochemistry and molecular biology, providing an opportunity to compete with international scientific centers. It is now possible to produce scientific results that meet global standards and collaborate with international partners on an equal footing. This opens new horizons for scientific analysis and discoveries, expanding the geographical reach of international-level research for our scientists.
