Minister of Education and Science presents international accreditation certificates for YSU educational programs
Today, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasyan, and the Deputy Chairman of the Higher Education and Science Committee, Artur Movsisyan, visited Yerevan State University to present the international accreditation certificates for its educational programs. During the visit, they toured the university’s research and educational laboratories, discussed various initiatives aimed at the university's development, and outlined new cooperation opportunities intended to enhance the educational environment and improve the quality of higher education in Armenia.
The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, the deputy chairman of HESC, along with YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan and vice-rectors, toured the newly renovated and equipped laboratories at the YSU Faculties of Biology and Chemistry, as well as the Institutes of Pharmacy and Physics. The visit aimed to explore the technological innovations in these labs and the opportunities they offer, which are crucial not only for enhancing the educational process but also for advancing science.
Considering the opportunities created at YSU, Minister Zhanna Andreasyan highly appreciated the ongoing changes at the university, as well as the scientific and educational programs that ensure the establishment of an academically efficient environment, fostering the development of students' professional skills and enhancing the competitiveness of higher education.
YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, emphasizing the achievements of the university, stated: "The extensive tour of YSU laboratories with the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports provided an opportunity to show the equipment acquired through the efforts of the Higher Education and Science Committee, as well as to explore their application in ongoing research. Our work has become more efficient. In 2024, YSU published over 600 articles in internationally peer-reviewed journals."
YSU rector noted that the university's achievements are directly linked to the enhancement of the quality of higher education and scientific innovations.
"The accreditation of educational programs in collaboration with the German ASIIN Agency, which began two years ago, is also of great significance. As a result of the substantial efforts, resources, and dedication invested in this process, the German ASIIN International Agency has accredited the "Biochemistry and Biotechnology" bachelor’s program and the "General and Medical Biochemistry" master’s program at the Faculty of Biology, as well as the "Pharmacy" bachelor’s and master’s programs at the Institute of Pharmacy," said YSU rector, adding that the process of international accreditation for six educational programs at the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics is currently underway.
He assured that international accreditation will enhance the university’s ranking, as well as that of its educational divisions and programs, making them more attractive not only to Armenian but also to international applicants. It will also expand the employment opportunities for graduates both within the country and abroad, while promoting the international mobility of students and professors.
The rector also expressed gratitude to all the specialists whose work and professional contributions made it possible to achieve this significant result.
The Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, emphasized the importance of involving the youth in the field of science, noting that the new opportunities created make the environment attractive for the youth, which is a significant achievement.
"The university, as an educational and scientific center, continues to strengthen its position and significance in the field of scientific research in Armenia, and I am very pleased about this. The policy in the field of higher education and science is to encourage our universities to become research universities. The connection with science should be based on the understanding that it is an integral part of the educational process. I am glad that today, at YSU, the work is being organized according to this principle," she said.
Addressing the process of international accreditation of educational programs, Zhanna Andreasyan pointed out that the international accreditation of educational programs is one of the key priorities highlighted by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports.
Valuing the role of quality education in line with international standards, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan and Zhanna Andreasyan presented certificates to the heads of educational programs for those that had received international accreditation.
The meeting was attended by YSU vice-rectors, representatives of the academic and administrative staff, as well as students.
