Model UN inter-university simulation kicks off at YSU
With the initiative of the Student Scientific Society of YSU Faculty of International Relations, the Model UN inter-university educational simulation was launched in YSU Academic Council Session Hall. This event, held in a unique format, brought together students and young researchers from YSU and various universities of Armenia, providing them with the opportunity to engage in diplomatic debates and decision-making processes.

This year’s Model UN centered on a highly relevant and challenging theme: "The Global Migration Crisis and the Rights of Refugees."Participants took on the roles of representatives from various countries, delving into the issues faced by both countries of origin and host nations, and analyzing migration policies and violations of refugee rights.
Siranush Baghumyan, President of YSU Student Scientific Society (SSS), emphasized that the Model UN is not only one of the key initiatives of the Faculty of International Relations but also one of the most large-scale and significant projects of the entire university’s SSS.

"The Faculty of International Relations launched this format back in 2010, transitioning it from a university-wide initiative to a faculty-specific platform. Today, it has become a much-anticipated and beloved event among the student community. It is one of the university’s most important events for fostering inter-university cooperation," she noted.
Karine Arakelyan, President of SSS of the Faculty of International Relations, speaking about the format of the event, explained: "The structure of the program enables students to act as delegates, present the official position of their assigned country, raise awareness about current challenges, and propose potential solutions. This serves not only as a means to apply theoretical knowledge but also as an excellent platform for developing public speaking and negotiation skills."
Students from several Armenian universities submitted applications to participate in the program. Those selected demonstrated both strong command of the topic and a high level of engagement. After the initial registration phase, applicants underwent an interview process, and today the official launch of the simulation exercise was announced.
During the opening ceremony, Edgar Elbakyan, Director of the Armenian University, delivered a speech in which he offered a comprehensive overview of migration-related issues, aiming to inform especially those students who were less familiar with certain aspects of the topic.
This year saw particularly strong participation from students of French University in Armenia, Russian-Armenian University, and Brusov State University, once again highlighting the importance of the program as a platform for collaboration and unification.
