DR. BALDUR THORHALLSSON – PROFESSOR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ICELAND – HELD AN ONLINE LECTURE AT YSU
On December 17th, Dr. Baldur Thorhallsson – professor at the University of Iceland – held an online lecture on the foreign policy of small states and the Shelter theory at the invitation of Narek Sukiasyan – 2nd year student of YSU MA programme “Regional Politics”.
During the lecture, Dr. Thorhallsson introduced the genesis of small state concept, its scientific novelty in the study of IR. Thereafter, Dr. Thorhallsson presented his latest edited book – “Small States and Shelter Theory: Iceland's External Affairs” – its main theoretical innovations and practical applications.
The lecture was followed by a Q&A session between the students and the professor during which issues, such as the theoretical articulations of the concept, the domestic vulnerability of small states, various aspects of their foreign policy.
The discussion unfolded around the possibility of applying the Shelter theory for the study of Armenia’s foreign policy.
Echoing Dr. Thorhallsson’s interest, the students and the alumni of “Regional Politics” MA programme presented the results and the work-in-progress of their research projects on the concept of small states.
Valuing the achievements of the programme, Dr. Thorhallsson expressed his interest to deepen the level of cooperation and learn more about the results of completed research projects.
