INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE LAUNCHED AT YSU FACULTY OF HISTORY
The scientific conference "Blasphemy and apostasy" Discourses, narratives, and practices" was organized within the framework of cooperation between Yerevan State University and Saint Petersburg European University.
The purpose of the conference was to present research on the above-mentioned topic, conduct discussions, and perform analyzes on the methods and theoretical principles of cultural anthropology.
During the conference, the speakers presented professional studies on the concepts of blasphemy, apostasy, profanation, or in legal terms, insulting someone's feelings, and hate speech.
YSU Associate Professor, Ph.D. Yulia Antonyan, who was also one of the organizers of the conference, told us that the faculty has been cooperating with the European University of Saint Petersburg for a long time. The faculty regularly organizes seminars, lectures, and joint research programs.
According to her, the idea of holding an international conference entitled "Blasphemy and apostasy" Discourses, narratives, and practices" suddenly appeared.
Referring to similar events organized by the chair of cultural studies, Y. Antonyan mentioned. "We often organize meetings with invited scientists. Multilingual conferences are part of our general research activities and another platform to present our research."
Director of YSU Center for Civilization and Cultural Studies Alexander Aghajanyan and professor of the European University of Saint Petersburg, speaker Alexander Panchenko, who were also organizers of the conference, spoke about the importance of the conference and emphasized the relevance of the selected topics. They noted that thanks to such conferences, the cooperative ties between universities are further strengthened and the opportunity to exchange experience is expanded.
YSU history faculty students assured that thanks to participation in similar events at the faculty, they strengthen their knowledge, acquire new skills and have the opportunity to communicate with scientists.
The participants of the conference also presented reports in an online format. The reports were presented in Armenian, Russian, and English.
