MATINEE IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF THE GREAT SCIENTIST EDUARD SEKOYAN AT YSU
A memorial ceremony dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Professor Eduard Sekoyan, a prominent representative of medicine, a powerful and key pillar of the national school of pharmacology, and an outstanding scientist, took place at YSU Institute of Pharmacy.
Ed. Sekoyan's long-term and fruitful scientific activity in the field of neurology is a significant contribution to the development of modern concepts of neurogenic and metabolic regulation of brain blood circulation. Among his most important scientific achievements is the acquisition of convincing evidence about the role of brain glycosphingolipids, which were previously attributed only to plastic functions in the cascade mechanisms of the development of cerebrovascular pathology.
The role of the professor in the formation and establishment of the Institute of Pharmacy of Yerevan State University is noteworthy. Under the guidance of the author of more than 200 scientific papers, many inventions, educational manuals, and a number of dissertations and doctoral works were successfully defended.
YSU faculty members, colleagues, and students presented their memories of the famous scientist, the entirety of which resembled a mosaic of concentrated colors.
Speaking about the professor, YSU Pharmacy Institute Director Samvel Vardapetyan remembered his senior colleague with nostalgia.
"Sekoyan was one of those scientists whose lectures many people applied to YSU for. I will not hesitate to say that it was his love for YSU that, despite his busy schedule, he gave lectures at the Institute of Pharmacy, sharing his experience with students," S. Vardapetyan said with a smile and presented a photo where they were together and he characterized the scientist as a principled, liberal and infinitely kind scientist.
Ed. Sekoyan educated many generations. Sona Yegoryan, studying at the institute, is one of his students from his last terms, who had set a goal to cooperate with the scientist in the future. Speaking about Professor, S. Yegoryan immediately began to describe his clothes, posture, and gait.
"Eduard Sekoyan walked slowly and thoughtfully, greeting the students of the Institute of Pharmacy. He used to smile, with all the kindness in his eyes, then, before reaching the audience, he would answer the students' questions, and at the end, he would try to understand whether they got the answer or not. Sekoyan was one of the few professors whose subject exams were attended by all students with great enthusiasm: for them, it was another opportunity to communicate with the Sekoyan individual," emphasized the once student of the beloved professor.
Sona, referring to the interesting traits of Ed. Sekoyan's character, said, "When he found out that there were students who, for some reason, would not be able to be present until the end of the class, he tried to convey in a short period what he had planned within the scope of the given topic."
Emma Markosyan, a former student of professor, and Ph.D. student at the Institute of Pharmacy, also emphasized his eye-catching appearance while talking about the scientist.
"Despite his respectable age, the always neat and modern professor had a unique way of presenting knowledge: the whole audience listened to him with rapt attention. In the presence of Ed. Sekoyan, the audience got a new breath," said Emma.
Speaking about the renowned scientist, YSU candidate of pharmaceutical sciences Lusine Sahakyan continued to describe the professor as an individual with high human qualities. Lusine, whose Ph.D. thesis adviser was Ed. Sekoyan singled out the professor's modesty as a defining feature.
Lusine mentioned, “He was eager to pass on the knowledge he had acquired over the years, but at the same time he was proud and happy with the success his students were achieving. While writing the dissertation, he gave me advice that helped me present my research in the best possible way. It can be said that he was more proud of our small achievements than of his successes...".
