"THE ADVISORY BODY FORMED FROM ELDERS OF ALL COURSES WILL THEREFORE CONTINUE ITS ACTIVITIES ON AN INSTITUTIONAL BASIS." EDUARD GALSTYAN
A session was held with the participation of the elders of different courses of YSU faculties, during which they were acquainted with the activities, upcoming plans, and goals of the consultative body of the elders of the courses operating under the YSU center for student affairs.
The purpose of the advisory body is to define and coordinate the activities, rights, and responsibilities of elders of all YSU faculties, strengthening elder-group, elder-supervisor, and elder-dean's office relations.
It is worth noting that the YSU center for student affairs has been working with the elders of YSU faculties’ courses within the framework of programs of different formats since 2016. In a conversation with us, the deputy director of the center, Eduard Galstyan, mentioned that the advisory body formed by the seniors of all courses would continue its activities on an institutional basis from now on.
"I think that the effectiveness of the activity of the advisory body will increase by receiving the constant support of the management of the faculties. I am hopeful that the events organized in this structure will inspire the elders, contributing to the solution of a number of problems and making the work easier", emphasized E. Galstyan.
According to Hasmik Hovhannisyan, the coordinator of the advisory body, it also provides an opportunity to raise the problems in the faculty, to find solutions, as well as to come up with proposals.
"The elders of all courses of the faculties are involved in the advisory body, and in the coordinating group - 2 representatives in case of more than 600 students, and 1 representative in the case of fewer students. Unlike last year, this year the representative of the coordinating group is elected by the faculty (last year, the council elected them based on the submitted applications)," said H. Hovhannisyan.
Gohar Zhamakochyan, a fourth-year senior in the Faculty of Biology of YSU spoke to us about the importance of the council of elders, emphasizing the role of the structure in the self-organization of their activities. According to Gohar, in the past elders represented the main functions of freshmen, which, in my opinion, was not very effective. The Council of Elders is an excellent opportunity for quick resolution of problems arising in the courses.
The YSU informatics and applied mathematics 2nd - year student Narine Poghosyan also stated that the information received within the framework of the council of elders gives an opportunity to carry out more coordinated activities. According to Narine, such problems were raised within the council of elders and received comprehensive solutions.
