FROM RADIOPHYSICS TO CLIMBING. YSU OPENS NEW DOORS TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS IN SPORTS
Adrine Arshakyan, a student of the Faculty of Radiophysics of YSU, took first place in the women's competition of the 23rd RA Student Sports Games, individual climbing championship. The interesting details of the conversation with Adrine will provide an opportunity to learn about the third-year student’s interests, which at first glance seem very different from each other.
The desire to become the best specialist in the field brought Adrine to the Faculty of Radiophysics. According to her, since elementary school years, she loved physics and was interested in assembling different electric circuits. After long-term studies, she realized that she could get comprehensive knowledge about the field only at Yerevan State University. Adrine says that the choice of university and profession is one of her best decisions, and during her years of studies, there was hardly a moment when she was disappointed with her choice. Probably, the love for the profession is also the reason why Adrine aspires to lecture in her own faculty in the future.
"For me, the most important thing is to be a person and specialist useful for the motherland, and YSU trains such people, giving them great opportunities, you just have to use them," assures Adrine.
- Apart from higher and international standard education, what other opportunities does the university provide?
- Apart from major, students have a wide range of interests. Many of them are engaged in various sports, and student championships are a good opportunity to measure one's strength against students from other universities. All that also contributes to being able to live a more active and interesting student life along with classes, - she answers.
Adrine has been interested in climbing since her first year, but joined the YSU climbing team just a month ago. She says that her friend, Anahit Hambardzumyan, who studies at the same faculty, told her about that team, who, by the way, took second place in the competition, and she decided to join the team from the next day. According to her, the coach of the team, Suren, with his warm attitude and telling the success stories of the students, increased the enthusiasm even more. It assures that the role of the coach is great in success.
"From the first day I joined the team, I fell in love with the sport, and training with my teammates is just a pleasure," admits Adrine.
Before talking to Adrine, I had searched the web to understand where radiophysics and climbing might eventually intersect, and the information I read left me even more confused. In an article, I noticed a thought written in bold letters, "Visual thinking and creative thinking are crucial in the sport of climbing". I guess, it is the connection I am looking for, and I ask Adrine:
- What do you think? Did the profession of radiophysicist play a significant role in achieving success?
- Physics, being a complex and natural science at the same time, implies the most accurate presentation of things and phenomena. Sometimes it is necessary to understand everything not literally, but conceptually. Certainly, my profession has a great role in the development of visual and creative thought. It taught me to take different approaches to the most seemingly simple things and phenomena and to study them from different perspectives, - answers Adrine, as if outlining the connection between climbing and radiophysics in her imagination.
During the conversation, she assures that her love for rock climbing suggests that she will do more to become proficient in the field, to participate in larger tournaments later and, of course, to achieve success. Finally, I ask, how did you manage to get a win after only being in the team for a month?
- I participated quite confidently and without any tension, which helped me a lot during the climb. They say that the one, who wins, first wins in his mind...
