ARAM SIMONYAN RECEIVED FAMOUS TURKISH HISTORIAN TANER AKCAM
Today, YSU Rector Aram Simonyan hosted Professor from the Clark University of Massachusetts Taner Akcam.
YSU Vice-rector Gegham Gevorgyan, Head of International Cooperation Office Alexander Markarov, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Ruben Melkonyan, Head of the Chair of Turkic Studies Alexander Safaryan and Lusine Sahakyan, lecturer from the same chair were present at the meeting.
Aram Simonyan first presented our guest the brief history of the foundation of YSU, its structure, educational process and international cooperation.
"YSU was founded almost a century ago. YSU is the largest and leading university in the country, giving about 1/3 of the country's scientific production. For the development of the university, the administration of the university pays great attention to the establishment and development of international relations. We attach importance to the expansion of scientific ties with prestigious foreign universities," - said YSU Rector and added that he is familiar with the books of famous Turkish historian and is a great honor to host him at YSU.
Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Ruben Melkonyan presented the scientific works of YSU Rector, touched upon the activities of YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies, presented the structure, the subjects taught at the faculty.
Famous Turkish historian Taner Akcam asked what studies were being conducted at YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies and the guest was interested if Ottoman language is taught at YSU and students are fluent in this language. Ruben Melkonyan mentioned that this language is taught and there are students who know it well.
Taner Akcam thanked YSU Rector for the reception and the opportunity to deliver a lecture at YSU.
