Today, the regular session of the Academic Council took place in YSU Academic Council session hall. The agenda included eight main and several current issues.
Before returning to the agenda issues, the rector touched upon some issues. Particularly, he urged the universitarians to be active in the intra-university Intranet system, as well as pay serious attention to the issue of internal awareness.
A. Simonyan also mentioned that in the near future a monument to literary critic and actor Levon Nersisyan, who is a symbol of the intelligentsia of the 60-70s, will be placed in the yard of the university. It was suggested to organize a fundraising for that. Then the participants of the session honored with a minute of silence the memory of Misak Davtyan, lecturer, Doctor of Biology, Academician, who died in the USA.
First, second and third questions referred to the granting of the titles of professor, associate professor, elections of the heads of chair, deans. This all was was submitted to the approval by the Academic Council by the Dean of the Faculty of Radiophysics Khachatur Nerkararyan, Chairman of the Commission on Competion.
Documents on these issues were approved by members of the Academic Council as a result of secret voting.
The fourth issue concerned the establishment of Master's degree programs, which was reported by the Chair of the Standing Committee on Quality Assurance of YSU Academic Council, Dean of the Faculty of Biology Emil Gevorgyan. The latter introduced new master's programs that were approved by members of the Academic Council.
Gegham Gevorgyan, Vice-Rector for Scientific Policy and International Cooperation, made a report on making amendments and additions to the calculation and payment procedure for the performance of certain types of work of YSU employees, after which he answered the questions of the colleagues.
YSU Vice-rector on Academic Affairs Alexander Grigoryan also presented the admission to YSU for 2017-2018 academic year (full-tiem education system).
"4,620 applicants have been registered in the centralized admissions system, of whom 32.88% - 1,519 have applied to YSU. Compared to other universities, this is a fairly high indicator. The second stage of accepting applications has already begun and we will have more accurate data in the future. In two faculties of Yerevan State University, Law and Informatics and Applied Mathematics, the admission will be held in a competitive manner," - said A. Grigoryan and brought some details on the admission to the Master's Degree, as well as answered a number of questions.
A. Simonyan said that the situation is really worrying because there are professions that have been popular, but now they are in a difficult situation: "Financial losses are registered in many faculties. One of the reasons for this is the universality of the institution, as well as inside the structure. It should also be noted that the new labor market requires some skills, so it is necessary to create a unique platform at the faculties and scientific centers, where the students will gain practical knowledge and skills in line with market requirements."
Deans of faculties with fewer applicants were eligible to give speeches, not only expressing their concerns over the issue, but also with a number of project proposals.
Yeznik Mirzoyan, director of the library, presented to the colleagues the issue of establishing YSU library development concept, who made some clarifications on the need for a new concept and amendments.
"Yes, there are problems in the University Library. The students complain of the attitude of the library staff, for which I issued an order to form a commission that checks and supervises the work of the department," - the rector emphasized.
Yeznik Mirzoyan emphasized that the problem is not just among the employees, but also with the students, some work should be done.
The members of the Academic Council decided to discuss the issue of the new concept of the library after summarizing the conclusions presented by the Committee.
Gevorg Emin-Teryan, Head of the Department of Information and Public Relations, presented the proposal to YSU Board of Trustees to dissolve the structural subdivision of YSU Public Relations and Information Department and to create "YSU Public Relations Service Structural Subdivision".
"At present there are problems in the department that make it difficult for the proper implementation of the current work. It is envisaged to implement the rais of YSU ranking, as well as new programs and projects aimed at attracting applicants, which will need to be reorganized to fulfill them. Not only the official website of the university, but also the newspaper needs fundamental transformation. Periodically, it is planned to hold press conferences, where YSU specialists will not only analyze the issues of the agenda, but also create a new agenda,"G. Emin-Teryan said.
Touching upon the issues presented, the Rector said that these changes are urgent and necessary.
All issues on the agenda were approved by members of the Academic Council.
Dean of YSU Faculty of Radiophysics Kh. Nerkararyan touched upon the necessity of renaming the faculty and the Chair of Radiophysics and Telecommunication, as well as the reorganization of the chairs of Wave Process Theory and Physics and Higher Mathematics, suggesting to submit to YSU Board of Trustees the mentioned proposals.
