“ALL CHALLENGES MUST BE SETTLED IN PEACEFUL WAY”: GEORGE TSERETELI
The meeting with the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly George Tsereteli was held in the Assembly Hall of YSU Academic Council.
YSU Rector, Pro-Rectors, YSU Faculty members and students participated in the meeting organized by the YSU Department of International Cooperation.
The President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in his speech said that had the felt pleasure to be hosted in the most important educational establishment of Armenia. “I want to congratulate you on your achievements. As an educational institution you have been able to keep your leading position in the present-day competitive conditions. I am sure that each student feels proud to be YSU student. I am glad to have the opportunity to communicate with students-the future of Armenia”.
George Tsereteli told the participants of the meeting about the organization, presenting the its structure, mission and main activity:
“The parliamentary Assembly of OSCE consists of 320 delegates of member countries. The mission of this body of OSCE is to facilitate inter-parliamentary dialogue”.
“Our main mission is to meet the challenges with structural and coordinated activity. Conflicts are among these challenges and one of them is the conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. We believe that all challenges must be settled in peaceful way”, said George Tsereteli.
According to the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, one of the main direction of the body’s activity is human rights defence. “Unfortunately, the situation with human rights is far from being satisfactory throughout the world. There are many violations in OSCE territory stretching from Vancouver to Vladivostok, so we are trying to settle the problems via special committees”.
“There are countries among OSCE members which have bad relationship, to say the least of it. For example, Russia and Georgia, Greece and Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and while making decisions it’s sometimes very difficult to reach consensus that’s why we work hard to do our work staying faithful to our principles”, explained George Tsereteli.
During the meeting the students gave questions to the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly which mainly related to Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement.
Answering the questions George Tsereteli once again expressed confidence that the conflict must be solved in peaceful way: “Everyone saw what happened in 2016. We were highly concerned because actually the achievements reached before it, have been nullified. All international organizations, particularly the OSCE which is a direct conciliator in this issue, put their efforts into making the two countries come to consensus. Sometimes we have to make the parties take part in the meeting to find peaceful solutions. We denounce all military means. The OSCE Minsk Groups was formed to settle this problem, and many other people are involved in this issue, unfortunately the desirable result hasn’t been reached yet”.
At the end of the meeting YSU Rector presented George Tsereteli with Shmavon Shmavonyan’s “Ararat” album.
