“H. ACHARYAN’S WORKS ARE A GREAT CONTRIBUTION”: ITALIAN PROFESSOR AT YSU
By the initiative of the Chair of Romance Philology of YSU Faculty of Romance-Germanic Philology a meeting-lecture of Professor Giancarlo Schirru from University of Naples "L'Orientale" was held at the university.
The head of the Chair of Romance Philology Hasmik Baghdasaryan expressed gratitude to the Italian specialist for accepting the invitation and also expressed hope that similar initiatives will be continued.
In his conversation with us the organizer of the meeting, Associate Professor Grigor Ghazaryan said that the process of organizing the meeting was interesting and symbolic. “Giancarlo Schirru shows big interest in Armenian dialects and Grabar (old Armenian) so our relationship became stronger as a result of the study of the mentioned spheres”, said Grigor Ghazaryan and added, “Symbolically, this year the Italian language is presented to the world under the title of “Italian and the web, social networks for the Italian Language”, and we got in touch with the professor through the Internet. Via the Internet we chose the theme, made the agreement and today the professor is at YSU and is delivering his lecture for the students and lecturers of the faculty”.
During the lecture entitled “Dialectology and Linguistics”, the Italian professor spoke about the importance and relevance of dialectological research, as well as referred to the eminent Italian linguist Graziadio Isaia Ascoli and his works from which the Italian dialectological research derived.
Giancarlo Schirru also referred to the works by the renowned Armenian linguist Hrachya Acharyan considering those as a great contribution not only in Armenology but also in the science of linguistics.
At the end of the discussion the Italian professor expressed hope that such discussions would be continued.
