SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM: MIXTURES PROMOTING BIOHYDROGEN PRODUCTION TO BE OFFERED
The scientific theme “From organic wastes to biohydrogen: preliminary recycling of wastes and regulation of processes promoting H2 production in microbes” presented by the Faculty of Biology of YSU has been guaranteed for financing of MES Science Committee.
The scientific leader of the mentioned above theme, the head of the Chair of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology of the Faculty of Biology, the correspondent member of NAS, Doctor, Professor Armen Trchunyan presented the goal of the scientific theme, its importance and applied significance.
The scientific group formed for the implementation of this program consists of 5 members two of which are young scientists. According to Armen Trchunyan, during the recent years, great attention is paid to the production of molecular hydrogen (H2) from alternative and renewable sources of energy. “Molecular hydrogen is an effective and eco-friendly energy source which has wide possibilities of usage.
Research is carried out to develop molecular hydrogen production, improve its technology and include this sort of fuel in other spheres of economy, particularly using it in hydrogen accumulators, engines, small volume movable generators. It is necessary to find clear solutions for clarifying the sources for molecular hydrogen production to work out feasible and effective technologies”. “In this project selection and optimization of recycling of carbon-rich wastes, promotion of hydrogen production in microbes must be implemented. Absorption of widespread but unexplored carbons and organic acids and their mixtures by microbes will be researched, and mixtures promoting production and prolongation of biohydrogen will be offered”.
Professor Trchunyan emphasized that the results of the program will promote clarification of the mechanisms of biohydrogen production and working out new directions for their effectiveness increase. The technology of biohydrogen production will be improved as well. “Besides, the laboratory model, new approach for organic wastes use will be developed and the solution to the ecological problem of waste recycling will be solved”.
