A NUMBER OF REPRESENTATIVES OF UNIVERSITIES TAKE PART IN THREE-DAY SCHOOL “RIGHTS OF REFUGEES”
On October 19-21, the Faculty of Law of YSU, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Armenia, and "Mission Armenia" charity NGO organized the 8th school entitled “Rights of refugees” in Dilijan.
The “Rights of refugees” school aims to promote development of clinical education in the field of protection of the rights of refugees and to develop cooperation between legal clinics of different higher educational establishments of the republic.
The director of YSU Legal Clinic Knarik Vardanyan told us that the circles of the school participants are expanding from year to year involving students of legal clinics of the leading universities of the capital. “This year among the participants were 30 students of legal clinics of YSU Faculties of Law and International Relations, of Gavar State University, of Armenian-Russian (Slavonic) University, of Gyumri “Progress” University and “Haybusak” University”, said Knarik Vardanyan.
During the three-day school the participants were presented the role of UNHCR and directions of its activity in Armenia, the main principles and provisions of the international legal and instate protection of the rights of refugees, as well as the basic problems of legal protection of the rights of refugees in Armenia.
During the trainings the implementation of the rights fixed by the international and state legislation and the gaps related to their implementation were discussed, the legislative and integration gaps were studied and the future programs aimed at the development of cooperation between clinical education and the legal clinics of the republic were outlined.
During the Refugee Law School reports were made by the representatives of state bodies, different educational establishments of Armenia, NGOs and international organizations. A lecture was delivered by the director of YSU Legal Clinic, the Assistant to the Chair of YSU European and International Right Knarik Vardanyan who also coordinated the organizational activities of the school. At the end of the school a traditional visit to Gosh village in Tavush district was organized.
The center of culture, religion and education-Goshavank_ constructed by the great Armenian scientist, educator, fable writer and legislator, the author of “Judgement Book” Mkhitar Gosh is located in this village.
