“HUMAN RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY IN EASTERN PARTNERSHIP COUNTRIES: TENDENCIES AND DEVELOPMENTS”: FORUM AT YSU
“Human rights and democracy in Eastern Partnership countries: tendencies and developments” forum has been held today in YSU Centre for European Studies.
The forum was held with the assistance of “Konrad Adenauer” foundation. Speakers from Georgia and Belarus took part in the forum. The representative of Tbilisi State University Nino Lapiashvili made a report on Georgia’s experience in democratic processes.
The speaker stated that the Eastern Partnership shouldn’t be perceived only as a union of the countries experienced the Soviet period. “The past must not interfere with our vision of future. We certainly must learn from the past but we must be ready to develop a new agenda for the future as well”, said Nino Lapiashvili.
The speaker from Belarus State University Andrey Rusakovich in his turn stated that Belarus as a EaP member must be able to keep the balance between the European Union and Russia.
“It is very important for us to equally cooperate with the countries of the region trying to make slow but firm steps towards European membership”, stressed the speaker.
At the end of the forum the students had the opportunity to address their questions related to the European Partnership to the guests.
