IN MEMORIAM OF PROFESSOR LEVON MOURADIAN
Professor Levon Mouradian, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Founder and Scientific Director of the Research Laboratory of Ultrafast Optics and Photonics of Scientific-Research Institute of Physics, Doctor of Science, Leading Specialist of Chair of Optics of the Faculty of Physics of the Yerevan State University deceased on September 19, 2018 at the age of 62 after a long battle with cancer.
Professor Mouradian was a man who lived his entire life with the mission of a great scientist, serving for science and his country with an unexhausted spirit and devotion. His irresistible buoyancy and optimism served as unbreakable grounds for his colleagues and himself to help believe in a brighter future. This was particularly apparent in the transition years of the past century, when not only the science, but the entire economy of the newly independent Armenia were facing hard times. During that period Professor Mouradian’s multidirectional activity included committed and continuous search for new international relations and grant projects to engage the younger generation in science and to start new projects. NATO Science for Peace 978027 international project was implemented due to his immediate efforts and initiative, within the framework of which he founded a unique ultrafast optics laboratory in the region furnished with novel laser system.
The great majority of his students, over a dozen in number, have established themselves and successfully work in well-respected scientific centers both in Armenia and all over the world. Professor Mouradian’s contribution in the solution of important directions of the contemporary ultrafast optics and laser physics, such as generation, management and registration of signal in the femtosecond time scale is undeniable.
Professor Mouradian also has a significant contribution in developing and expanding the international relations of the Yerevan State University, as well as the link between science and industry, particularly in fostering the introduction of research results in production, by means of developing principles of innovative high technology devices.
Professor Mouradian was granted with seven patents for his engineering activity in the areas of ultrafast and fiber optics. He has been an author of more than 200 scientific publications, was a member of organizational committees of a number of international conferences and was awarded and led over a dozen international and local individual and group grant projects.
Let us retain his soul entrusted to us with love and warmth. Rest in peace, dear friend! We are sure your lively smile will never be faded by the veil of oblivion…
