“IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO IMAGINE MODERN RUSSIAN HISTORY WITHOUT ARMENIANS”: AMBASSADOR EXTRAORDINARY AND PLENIPOTENTIARY OF RUSSIA TO ARMENIA

This was the first visit of the Ambassador to YSU so Aram Simonyan briefly presented the history of the university. The Rector referred to the activity of the Faculty of Russian Philology and the Russian centre. Later Sergey Kopirkin met with the students at the Session Hall of YSU Academic Council. In his greeting speech the Ambassador referred to Armenian and Russian relationship pointing out the strong ground and comprehensiveness of that relationsip.

“Armenian-Russian friendship has many-year experience and history. It covers varous spheres as Armenia is a very important partner for Russia. Our main goal is to carry on pesent traditions formed throughout friendship”.

Speaking about the Armenian community living in Russia Sergey Kopirkin mentioned that it is higly influential and has significant contribution to the development of many spheres of Russia. “It is impossible to imagine modern Russian history without Armenians”.

The Ambassador spoke about the political changes in Armenia. “Symbolically, these changes have coincided with my appointment. Together with Armenian people I witnessed the whole process”. The Ambassador answered the students’ questions afterwards. The students wanted to know what inter-cultural programs the Embassy is going to develop at the university and if there will be literature contests with the participation of contemporary Russian writers.

The Speaker mentioned that he will do his best to strengthen bilateral relations in academic and cultural sphere. The students also asked what sights the Ambassador would recommend to the tourists visitng Armenia. “I would recommend them to start the journey from Yerevan as Yerevan is a city with peculiar energetics and warmth. Then they should visit museums, theaters and enjoy Yerevan jazz”, said the Ambassador.
