“DUE TO JOINT EFFORTS AND UNITY OF STATES IT IS POSSIBLE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS OF REFUGEES”: LECTURE AT YSU
Within the framework of “Human rights and social work” subject a lecture-discussion was held today at YSU Academic Council session hall.
At the beginning of the discussion the lecturer of the Chair of Social Work and Social Technology of the Faculty of Sociology Liana Mkrtchyan greeted the guests and congratulated the students on the International Students Day.
The employee of the legal department of the UNO Armenian Office Naira Marutyan and the Advisor to the RA Human Rights Defender Sergey Ghazinyan delivered lectures. The theme was the RA Human Rights Defender as a constitutional institute, its liabilities, principles of work, directions, guaranties of activity as well as the activity of HRD in protection of the rights of refugees, cooperation in Armenia with the representation of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
Via video materials the expert presented the rights, obligations, legal status, social insurance of refugees and referred to the countries giving most shelters to refugees- Turkey, Pakistan, Lebanon and Iran.
During the lecture the expert spoke about the primary problems of refugees, answered the questions raised by those present. “Due to joint efforts and unity it is possible to solve the problems of refugees”, she assured. Pointing out that the number of refugees is increasing Naira Marutyan said the goal of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees is to show assistance to refugees. “Hosting country is responsible for refugees and the organization’s role is in assistance”.
Segey Ghazinyan presented the students the powers and jurisdiction of the RA Human Rights Defender. “ Human Rights Defender is a state body and not a non-governmental organizations’, he said.
