“ITALIAN IS TAUGHT AT YSU AS A SPECIALIZATION LANGUAGE”: THE UNIVERSITY HOSTS AMBASSADOR OF ITALY
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Armenia H.E. Mr. Vincenzo del Monaco was hosted by YSU Rector Aram Simonyan.
The meeting was held by the Department of International Cooperation of YSU. Vice-Rectors Alexander Grigoryan and Gegham Gevorgyan and the head of the Chair of Romance Philology of the Faculty of Romance-Germanic Philology Hasmik Baghdasaryan.
At the beginning of the meeting the Rector of YSU presented the history, the structure and current activity of the university. “Yerevan state University is the largest and the oldest university of our country, it is 100 years old. It has 19 faculties, 4 institutes, 15 scientific centres and more than 50 laboratories”.
“YSU is a classical university and we are particularly glad to have the possibility to study Italians philology”, said Mr. Simonyan. He spoke about the various ties with Italy and claimed that Armenians know Italian culture and are fond of it.
The head of the Chair of Romance Philology Hasmik Baghdasaryan presented H.E. Vincenzo del Monaco the achievements they had in Italian studies.
“Italian has been taught at our university since the 1970s and during the recent decade is has been taught as a specialization language and I can say that the Italian department of YSU is one of the most important centers of spreading Italian culture in Armenia”, said Mrs. Baghdasaryan.
She spoke with the Ambassador not only about the achievements but also about the problems related to teaching Italian at schools and training of specialists. The Ambassador of Italy gladly informed that his problem had already been solved.
At the end of the meeting Mr. Simonyan presented the Ambassador with a book about Armenia and expressed hope that the cooperation will be expanded, and Mr. Vincenzo del Monaco thanked for warm welcome.
