ARTIFICAL INTELLIGENCE: STRUGGLE AGAINST NATURE?
In the 21st century the artificial intelligence flooded the world: smart devices, vehicles, houses, people. What is to be expected from rapidly developing technologies? We discussed this issue with the Professor of the Faculty of Economics and management of YSU Samson Davoyan.
-What is artificial intelligence and in which fields can it be applied?
- Artificial intelligence is a sphere of science in which human intellectual creative functions are carried out via program modelling. It can be applied in random sphere of human activity beginning from medical and financial up to consumers’ services. Another issue is the purposefulness of its use. It can be applied in the spheres where there is a danger threatening human health, such as at mining, chemical industry and so on.
- How fast is the pace of integration of robots with artificial intelligence to society?
- Up to last year the USA, Japan, China, Germany and South Korea sold more than 75 % of robots worldwide. In these countries robots have become common and they participate in humans’ everyday life. There robots that can relieve the pain of patients or restore them from a stressful situation, can create music for relevant sphere and so on. Thus, in Japan a robot created a written piece of work which won a prize.
- What is to be expected in the future?
- Today the creative sphere of human activity can be subjected to robots but all this results in the struggle against nature. However developed the AI is we must remember that in some fields robots are powerless. For instance, fires, wars, floods, various disasters can’t be ruled by AI. We consider only the positive aspects of the achievements in this sphere and leave aside its negative impact Artificial intelligence bring to contradictions with nature and as a result we bring human society closer to the end. We must understand that the future is not planned and we don’t know in which direction science is developing.
- Mr. Davoyan, taking into account both positive and negative aspects how effective it is to invest into the mechanisms created by artificial intelligence?
- Investing into this sphere we will get good profit as one robot can replace the work of a few people. We can hardly find any work that can’t be done by a robot. Soon we will have a lot of unemployed whose jobs will be occupied by robots.
- In this case what shall we do to avoid lethal result?
- It is a serious problem for developed countries. Significant efforts are needed not to make the problem deeper. In my opinion we must create an international centre which will consider the risks of application of AI in this or that sphere. We should understand to what extend it can be applied if we want to avoid negative result.
