200TH ANNIVERSARY OF BENEFACTOR MKRTICH SANASARYAN TO MARK AT YSU

The event was organized by the Chair of Turkish Studies of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of YSU.

The head of the mentioned chair Al. Safaryan, Gagik Gharajyan, representatives of the RA Ministry of Dispora, students were present at the event. Mkrtich Sanasaryan had a great contribution to the Armenian students of the Caucasus: provided scholarships, sent them abroad to continue their education. Due to his and Karapet Yerznkyan’s efforts was founded Sanasaryan lyceum of Karin; was reconstructed Sandkhtyan female lyceum of Van which was named after Sanasaryan’s mother “Sandkhtyan Mariamyan” lyceum.

With the assistance of Mkrtich Sanasaryan schools were opened in Kharakonis village of van province, in Nizh and Vardashen villages of Nukhi province. The great benefactor showed material assistance to Gevorgyan seminary, to various charity organizations and cultural establishments.

Mkrtich Sanasaryan willed his whole fortune to Armenian schools. During the event Gagik Gharajyan delivered a lecture about the eminent benefactor, his charity actions and Sanasaryan lyceum.

The speaker stressed that though the contribution of the eminent benefactor is invaluable, little information is known about him. “Up to now his birth place, the reasons of death and the place of his grave are unknown”. The speaker offered the students to make the life and activity of Mkrtich Sanasaryan a scientific theme as there are a lot of omissions related to his personality.

The head of the Chair of Turkish Studies Al. Safaryan thanked Mr. Gharajyan for the informative lecture. He assured that Yerevan State University is ready to show overall support in the issue of highlighting the contribution of Mkrtich Sanasaryan providing the archives of the university and assisting in the publication of the relevant scientific articles.
